Dear Morley Community,

Thank you for visiting the Morley Webpage. Our school has the distinction of being named after Edward W. Morley, a renowned scientist and local resident. He spent his happy childhood playing on his farm in West Hartford during the 1840’s and 1850’s. Edward W. Morley grew up to be an influential scientist, whose work related to light and movement was used by Albert Einstein to develop his theory of relativity. As students enter historic Morley School (built in 1927) each day they embody Edward W. Morley’s innovative spirit, and most importantly, his willingness to contribute to the success of others.

At Morley School, our character builds our community. Students are nurtured to be life-long learners to better themselves and the community around them. Students are encouraged to use Morley’s six character traits of kindness, caring, fairness, respect, responsibility and citizenship to work together as a learning community to open doors to knowledge, and develop strong foundational skills which they can use to lead and contribute in their community.

As a strong home/school relationship is a priority at Morley, teachers and families work together to provide students with an environment that will allow them to uphold high academic standards and maintain the spirit of learning to better our community. Together, we utilize and continue to improve our strong home/school relationship to help students become leaders for the future. Opportunities exist in our classrooms through our extraordinary teachers to help students develop outstanding literacy, numeracy, visual art, music, athletics, foreign language, and 21st century skills. Students also learn how to be community members through programs such as Responsive Classroom, Love and Logic, Second Step Character Education, school initiatives (i.e. Buddy Bench, Red Wagon Food Drive) and Hall Connections. Students, teachers, and parents can work together to use what they learn in these programs to bring community events to life. With the unyielding support of our PTO and community, Morley truly is a school where Character Builds Community!

Please use the information on our site to aid you in being an engaged member of the Morley community. Join me in taking pride in our school through an effort to develop our students into productive, knowledgeable, and compassionate community members.

Thank you for your support of teaching, learning, and community at Morley School.

Respectfully,

Ryan Cleary
